Just in Time for Back-to-School Art Prevails Project Is Selected by The Miami Foundation as a Catalyst Grant Recipient
Organization is one of 12 grantees receiving funds for arts education programs in Miami-Dade
August 21, 2024 – As students, parents and teachers get ready for a new school year, The Miami Foundation has announced Art Prevails Project as a recipient of its first-ever Catalyst Grants. It is one of 12 grantees receiving multi-year grants, up to $20,000 distributed over two years, to fund arts education programs, initiatives, and organizations in Miami-Dade.
Intended to address opportunities for strengthened arts partnerships between nonprofit organizations and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Catalyst Grant program leverages data in artlook® Miami to close gaps in arts education across the region.
“We are excited to use these funds to impact students and staff at Miami Norland Senior HS and iPrep North Academy,” says Darius V. Daughtry, Executive Artistic Director. “This work is about creating opportunities for young people to engage with artistic practices that may promote a future in the arts, but, will definitely equip them with tools to be better human beings.”
The grants are part of The Miami Foundation’s program, Arts Access Miami, which aims to bring the transformational power of arts and music education to all youth. Access to arts is vital to achieving the Foundation’s goal of building a Greater Miami where everyone can thrive. When young people connect with the arts they have a greater ability to problem solve, be open to new ideas, and find purpose in their lives.
To be eligible for a Catalyst Grant, organizations had to meet multiple criteria, including being a 501©(3) public charity serving Miami-Dade County’s young people through the arts, having a 2024 operating budget of less than $750,000, and having a focus on equity.
For this grant cycle, The Miami Foundation selected organizations, like Art Prevails Project, that prioritized areas of need identified in the artlook® Miami tool. This included more access to dance and theatre, as well as opportunities for partnerships that provide artist residencies and arts education-centered professional development for teachers.
“The Miami Foundation is more than a funding source, we are partners in change,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, President and CEO of The Miami Foundation. “We are committed to working closely with each selected grant recipient throughout the grant period to provide guidance, additional resources, and facilitate opportunities for meaningful collaboration and growth.”
While the grant cycle has closed, nonprofits can still leverage the free artlook® Miami tool to connect with schools and other arts organizations, creating an even stronger arts ecosystem. artlook® Miami is an online platform that provides the tools, information, and insights to help all community stakeholders understand the impact, equity, and standards of quality arts learning in every K-12 Public School and a variety of cultural organizations in our community. artlook® allows communities to work collaboratively and strategically to deliver high-quality arts education experiences to every child in every grade in every school.

About Arts Access Miami:
Powered by The Miami Foundation in partnership with Young Musicians Unite, Arts Access Miami wants every child in Miami-Dade to have access to the power of consistent, high-quality arts education. Our focus is on system-level impact, partnering more closely with the school system, government, and institutional partners, and incentivizing larger collaborations that bring resources and opportunity to youth in a more systemic way. While there are dozens of organizations working toward this goal across Miami-Dade, this initiative seeks to expand youth access to the arts through increased trust, clarity, and collaboration amongst arts nonprofit leaders in the region.
